PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - - A furious fourth quarter comeback fell short for the third-seeded Wilmington University women's lacrosse team in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Semifinal, falling 12-10 to No. 2 Jefferson on Tuesday at Ravenhill Field.

It was an 8-1 run spanning the second and third quarters that allowed the Rams (11-7) to take their largest lead of the game, 10-4. The Wildcats (13-6) scored the final four goals of the game, but the clock ran out on the Wildcats' comeback.

Alea Javorowsky tied the game, 1-1, with a goal with 6:26 to play in the first quarter. The Rams scored a man-down goal with 4:28 to play, taking a 2-1 lead after the first 15 minutes.

Ella Royer and Eden Ward scored goals for the Wildcats to start the second quarter, taking a 3-2 lead. But the Rams answered with five straight goals to close out the second quarter, taking a 7-3 lead at the halftime break.

Tristan Holdsworth scored to snap the scoreless streak at 6-0 for the Wildcats, but the Rams scored the next two goals to take a 10-4 lead with 7:56 to play in the third.

Tristan Holdsworth and Ella Royer scored back-to-back goals late in the third to cut the deficit to 10-6, but the Rams had the final say in the third to make it an 11-6 lead going into the fourth.

The Rams scored the first goal of the fourth quarter as well, retaking a six-goal lead, 12-6. The Wildcats tried coming back with goals from Michaella Cook, Eden Ward, and two final tallies from Ella Royer, but the clock ran out on the Wildcats comeback. The Wildcats had their chances in the fourth, but a game-high eight turnovers in the fourth quarter didn't help.

Ella Royer ended her record-breaking season with four goals and an assist for five points, adding eight draws to go with two ground balls and a caused turnover. She ended her season with an NCAA Division II record 122 goals, adding 26 assists for 148 points. She also had 136 draw controls and 60 ground balls on the season.

Eden Ward and Tristan Holdsworth scored two goals each while Ward added two caused turnovers, a draw, and three ground balls. Anastasia Giannoulis dished out three assists while Michaella Cook had a goal and an assist. Ashleigh Lawry had five saves while Allison Schiavone had six saves in the second half.

The Rams advance to the CACC Tournament Championship and will face No. 1 Dominican on Sunday in the final at Georgian Court.
