NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The blend of winter and spring is not only apparent outside, but also inside Wilmington University athletics as four student-athletes were named on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Reports, with five more being named to the Honor Roll.
On the hardwood, women's basketball's Reynah Rattliff was named the CACC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. Outdoors, baseball's Brody Gebhard's collegiate debut earned him the CACC Pitcher and Rookie of the Week. Women's Lacrosse's Kirra Crowley was named the CACC Player of the Week while teammate Leah Rycroft was named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week.
Reynah Rattliff (Philadelphia, Pa.) stuffed the stat sheet in women's basketball's lone game last week, a hard-fought loss with CACC leading Holy Family. The freshman guard went for nine points, nine assists, six steals, and two rebounds last Tuesday. She was also named the CACC Rookie of the Week on January 13.
The baseball team got underway over the weekend with four games at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Wildcats went 3-1 over the weekend and had an exceptional debut from Brody Gebhard (Lancaster, Pa.) in game two against Franklin Pierce on Friday night. Gebhard started the nightcap against Franklin Pierce and pitched a perfect five innings against the Ravens. He struck out nine batters in those five innings, including five straight at one point. He earned the win in a 4-2 victory and was named the CACC Pitcher and Rookie of the Week.
The women's lacrosse team started its season on Saturday with a big 15-6 victory at Molloy and a pair of newcomers made the biggest splash to earn a spot on the CACC Weekly Report. In her first game at the Division II level, Kirra Crowley (Carlisle, Pa.) scored four goals and added three assists for a game-high seven points at Molloy. She also added a ground ball and a draw control to be named the Player of the Week. Leah Rycroft (Sherwood Park, Alberta), another junior transfer, led the team with two caused turnovers while adding two ground balls, and three draws in the win at Molloy, earning Defensive Player of the Week. She also scored her first goal as a Wildcat in the win.
Women's basketball's Emma Brown was named to the Honor Roll after another double-double against Holy Family. Men's basketball's Jaylin Horsey scored 19 points off the bench to earn a spot on the Honor Roll as well.
Baseball's Chase Fleming led the team with seven RBI in the four games last week, hitting two doubles and a homer to earn a spot on the Honor Roll. Men's Lacrosse's Ian Betts and Quinn Tracy were named to the Honor Roll after a close 9-8 loss to No. 17 Mercy as well.
