NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Five Wilmington University spring student-athletes were named to this week's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Reports, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
The spring sports are off and running, with three from women's lacrosse being named on the report. Ella Royer was named the CACC Player of the Week while Poppy Fornoff was named the CACC Rookie of the Week and Allison Schiavone was named the CACC Goalkeeper of the Week. On the men's side, Tyler Quinn was named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week while softball's Kasey Xenidis picked up the CACC Pitcher of the Week in her sport as well on Monday.
Ella Royer (Sherwood Park, Alberta) paced the women's lacrosse team to a 16-6 victory over Millersville last week. She scored eight goals to go with three draw controls, two ground balls, and a caused turnover in the win. Poppy Fornoff (Delta, Pa.) scored a goal while adding two assists for three points in the win. She also had two draws, two ground balls, and a caused turnover to be named the CACC Rookie of the Week. Allison Schiavone (Severna Park, Md.) came on and made eight saves on 10 shots in the second half, securing the victory over the Marauders.
On the men's side, Tyler Quinn (Barnegat, N.J.) aided the defensive efforts against No. 12 Molloy on Saturday. The senior caused five turnovers for the Wildcats while scooping up seven ground balls in the loss.
On the diamond, Kasey Xenidis (Wilmington, Del.) was the relief the Wildcats needed in the circle to start the season. She tossed 9.0 innings in two games, only allowing one unearned run. She threw three innings of relief in the season opener against Lock Haven, allowing an unearned run on two hits. She then tossed six scoreless innings against Sioux Falls to start the team's Florida trip, allowing the offense to come back for the 4-3 victory. She struck out four while only allowing a hit and a walk to earn the win.
In the final weekly report of the basketball season, seniors Justin Perez and Armani Bell-Jackson were named to the Weekly Honor Roll. Perez scored 33 points while Bell-Jackson scored 30 in their final games as a Wildcat. Men's lacrosse's Carter Earl was named to the Weekly Honor roll as well after scoring five points against Molloy.
