FROSTBURG, Md. - - The defense only allowed one goal in the second half as the 18th-ranked Wilmington University women's lacrosse team won a Monday afternoon matinee, 20-5, at Frostburg State inside Bobcat Stadium.
The win pushes the program's best start out to 7-0, scoring 17.29 goals a game while only allowing 7.43 goals per game. It's the sixth game in which they held their opponents to fewer than 10 games.
The Wildcats raced out to a 3-0 lead, but the Bobcats answered with the final two goals of the first quarter to close the gap to 5-3 after the first.
Ella Royer scored goals 19 seconds apart to make it an 8-3 lead and then Leah Rycroft and Kirra Crowley answered a Bobcat goal to close out the second quarter and take a 10-4 lead into the halftime break.
The Wildcats' defense clamped down in the third quarter, only allowing one goal again. The Wildcats scored the first four goals of the third, making it a 6-0 run spanning the half. Kirra Crowley bookended the run with goals while Leah Rycroft and Tristan Holdsworth scored in the middle.
The 14-5 deficit would be as close as the Bobcats would get, however, as the Wildcats scored all six goals of the fourth quarter. Ella Royer scored the first three goals of the frame before Tristan Holdsworth, Alea Javorowsky, and Madi Todd capped the scoring, making it a 20-5 victory.
Alea Javorowsky led with seven points, scoring two goals while adding five assists. Kirra Crowley followed with five goals, an assist, and five draws while Ella Royer finished with five goals and three caused turnovers. Tristan Holdsworth added two goals and three assists while Leah Rycroft chipped in with four goals, an assist, and five draws. Sophie Shive added two caused turnovers as well.
Allison Schiavone made four saves in the second half on Monday, only allowing one goal. Ashley Lawry earned the win with two saves in the first half.
The Wildcats take their perfect 7-0 record into Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Saturday when they host Caldwell at the WU Athletics Complex. The opening draw is set for 11:00 a.m.
