PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - - The Wilmington University women's lacrosse team scored the opening 12 goals on its way to a 19-4 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Chestnut Hill on Tuesday night at Victory Field.
Eight different Wildcats (11-2, 3-2 CACC) scored in the game with nine recording at least one point in the win. The Wildcats won the draw game, 21-4, getting back on offense quickly after scoring.
The first quarter was all Wilmington, as Michaella Cook started the scoring with a goal just 15 seconds into the contest. Ella Royer won the first of her 11 draws and raced towards goal, dishing it off to Cook who lifted the lid. Royer then scored back-to-back goals before Anastasia Giannoulis and Kirra Crowley got in on the action as well. Giannoulis then ended the quarter with her second of the quarter, giving the Wildcats a 6-0 lead after one.
Alea Javorowsky scored her first of the game to start the second and then Crowley and Royer added goals on free position shots to make it 9-0. Poppy Fornoff got in on the action with back-to-back goals before Javorowsky scored to make it 12-0 with 7:44 left on the clock. Chestnut Hill broke through late in the second, but the Wildcats took a 12-1 lead into the halftime break.
Madi Todd got into the boxscore with a goal in the third quarter, giving the Wildcats a 14-2 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Chestnut Hill started the fourth with back-to-back goals, but then the Wildcats scored the final five goals of the game. Leah Rycroft picked up a goal during the Wildcats while Alea Javorowsky assisted on three of the final four goals of the game.
Ella Royer led the Wildcats with four goals and three assists while Kirra Crowley scored three goals with an assist. Anastasia Giannoulis scored three goals while Alea Javorowsky finished with two goals and four assists. Poppy Fornoff, Michaella Cook, and Madi Todd all scored two goals as well. Eden Ward dished out an assist to make it nine Wildcats with points in the game.
Ella Royer also led with 11 draw controls for the Wildcats while Eden Ward added five. Leah Rycroft led the defense with three caused turnovers.
After two games on the road, the Wildcats return to the WU Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon. They welcome Post to Newark for another CACC contest, with the first draw coming at 1:00 p.m.
