NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's lacrosse team dished out 24 assists and had 12 separate point getters in a 25-5 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Post on Saturday at the WU Athletics Complex.
The win moves the Wildcats to 12-2 overall, staying in the top half of the CACC with a 4-2 mark. Post drops to 2-5 overall, 1-5 in CACC play.
The Wildcats got off to a quick start against the Eagles, scoring 11 goals in the first quarter. Post tied the game at 1-1, and scored again to make it 5-2, but then the Wildcats rattled off the final six goals of the quarter to take an 11-2 lead. Tristan Holdsworth scored three of the first four goals of the game and then Ella Royer scored three out of four to make it 9-2. Michaella Cook assisted on the eighth goal and scored the 10th goal, giving her 100 points in her career.
Kirra Crowley got on the board with the first goal of the second quarter and then scored again to make it 14-3. Post added another goal, but then the Wildcats closed out the half with the final three goals, getting a tally from Eden Ward and two from Leah Rycroft, taking a 17-4 lead into the break.
Leah Rycroft made it a personal 3-0 run by starting the third quarter with a goal. Post scored to make it 19-5, but then Megan Molinelli got in the scoring column with her first of the year as the Wildcats led 20-5 after three quarters.
Madi Todd and Kayla Dillon scored in the fourth quarter, taking the total to 11 goal scorers while Gia Boccia dished out three assists to make it 12 different point getters for the Wildcats in the game. The Wildcats outscored the Eagles, 5-0, in the fourth.
Alea Javorowsky led the Wildcats with a goal and nine assists for 10 points while Tristan Holdsworth had nine points with four goals and five assists. Ella Royer added eight points with five goals and three assists while Leah Rycroft scored six goals to go with one assist and nine draws. Eden Ward had two goals and an assists while Kirra Crowley added two goals to round out the Wildcats with multiple goals.
Royer, Rycroft, and Caitlyn Welker led the defense with two caused turnovers each while Crowley, Royer, Poppy Fornoff, Rycroft, and Javorowsky led with two ground balls each.
The Wildcats have a week off before returning to game action next Saturday. They head to Felician on April 18 with the opening draw set for 3:00 p.m. at Tryon Field in Rutherford, New Jersey.
