PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - - The Wilmington University women's lacrosse team raced out to an 11-0 lead on its way to a 25-4 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Holy Family on Tuesday night at Tiger Field.
With the win, coupled with a loss by Georgian Court, the Wildcats are now tied for third in the CACC with a 6-2 conference record. The Wildcats are 14-2 overall, winning five in row, and have one game remaining in the regular season.
On Tuesday, the Wildcats scored the first 11 goals of the game, all coming in the first 10 minutes of the game. Kirra Crowley scored two of the first three goals of the game while Ella Royer scored three in the opening run with Anastasia Giannoulis and Leha Rycroft adding two goals each. Alea Javorowsky assisted on four of the opening 11 goals.
The Wildcats scored the first five goals of the second quarter as well, getting goals from Royer, Michaella Cool, Giannoulis (2), and Crowley to take a 16-2 lead. Poppy Fornoff scored the final goal of the half to take a 17-3 at the break.
Alea Javorowsky scored and assisted on the two Wilmington goals in the third quarter as they led 19-4 going into the final frame. The Wildcats then shut out the Tigers in the fourth quarter, as Ella Royer scored four goals to extend the lead.
Royer finished with eight goals and an assist, adding seven draws and two caused turnovers. Alea Javorowsky scored once but assisted on nine other goals for a team high 10 points on Tuesday night. Tristan Holdsworth scored once and added five helpers, while Kirra Crowley and Anastasia Giannoulis scored four goals with one assist each. Leah Rycroft had three goals and an assist, adding 10 draws in the win.
The Wildcats' regular season comes to a close on Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex. They host Bridgeport in the finale on Senior Day, with the first draw expected at 1:00 p.m.
