NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's lacrosse team will face a familiar foe as it learned its fate with the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday night, and the fourth-seeded Wildcats will travel to Adelphi and play fifth-seeded Dominican in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament.
It will be round three and the rubber match for the two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foes, as Dominican took the regular season matchup, 12-11, on March 28, and the Wildcats took the CACC Tournament Championship game on Saturday, 13-9.
With the win on Saturday, the Wildcats (18-2) jumped Dominican (14-4) to the No. 4 spot. The First Round game will be held at Motamed Field on the campus of Adelphi University in Garden City, New York. The First Round game will be played on Thursday, May 7, at 2:00 p.m. The winner of the First Round game will take on top seed Adelphi on Saturday, May 9.
It is the first time in program history the Wildcats have heard their name called during the NCAA Selection Show. They already knew they were in after earning the CACC's automatic qualification with the CACC Championship on Saturday, but they didn't know their opponent or where they'd be playing.
The other half of the East Region will be hosted at No. 2 Pace University in Pleasantville, New York. No. 3 Mercy will take on No. 6 Southern Connecticut State in the other First Round matchup in the East Division.
More information about the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament will be announced later this week.
