NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's soccer team moved up two spots to No. 14 in this week's United Soccer Coaches National Poll, remaining at No. 2 in the East Region amongst a shuffle atop the leaderboard.
The Wildcats went 1-0-1 last week, tying Holy Family, 2-2, to begin Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play before shutting out Dominican, 5-0, on the road on Saturday. The Wildcats are now 4-0-2 overall this season.
IN the National Poll, the Wildcats moved up two spots to No. 14 overall. They are sandwiched between Colorado-Colorado Springs and Nova Southeastern, but just two spots away from Jefferson at No. 12. Cal Poly Pomona moved up to No. 1 in this week's national poll.
Franklin Pierce fell four spots from No. 1 to No. 5 in this week's East Region Poll, opening the door for a new No. 1. Jefferson leapfrogged the Wildcats and Adelphi to take over as the new No. 1 team in the East. The Wildcats remain in second while Adelphi also stays at No. 3. Mercy moves up to spots this week to No. 4 in the region.
The Wildcats travel to Mercy on Wednesday afternoon in another tough early season battle. They then return home to take on Bridgeport on Saturday for Homecoming at the WU Athletics Complex.
