EW HAVEN, Conn. - - A pair of Wilmington University student-athletes led their teams to victories last week as women's soccer's Sierra Bartley and volleyball's Chelsea Blaine-Agett were named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Players of the Week on Monday by the conference office.
Women's soccer improved their unbeaten streak to seven straight with a 2-0 win at Felician on Saturday, led by Sierra Bartley who was named the CACC Player of the Week. The volleyball team went 2-2 last week, winning their lone CACC game though, led by Chelsea Blaine-Agett who was named a CACC Co-Rookie of the Week.
Sierra Bartley (Mississauga, Ontario) scored both goals of a 2-0 win at Felician on Saturday, her first time this year with a multi-goal game. She ripped one home form 25 yards out in the 18th minute and then scored off a great run from Evelyn Payne in the 68th minute for the 2-0 lead. She now has five goals on the year and is second on the team with 13 points. Bartley and the Wildcats are now 7-1-6 overall and 4-0-5 in CACC with three games remaining in the regular season.
Chelsea Blaine-Agett (Johnson City, Tenn.) helped lead the Wildcats to a 2-2 record last week, but helped keep the Wildcats atop the CACC South Division with a win in their lone CACC match to start the week. For the week, the freshman middle hitter averaged 2.31 kills, 0.50 aces, 0.81 blocks, and 3.22 points per set in 16 sets. She had a week's best 12 kills in four sets against Georgian Court, adding two aces and two blocks for 15 points. She then had nine kills, four aces, and seven blocks for a week's high 16.5 points against West Chester. Over the weekend, she collected 10 kills, two serves, and three blocks at Bloomsburg and six kills and a block in three sets at Lock Haven. She is currently fifth in the CACC in averaging 0.80 blocks per set on the year and eighth in hitting .238 overall. The Wildcats are 15-10 overall and 8-1 in CACC play.
Volleyball's Karla Nunez-Rivera was named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll as well, leading the team with 51 kills and 56 points last week.
