Link to NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Bracket
NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's soccer team knew its name would be called but that didn't calm the nerves until it saw its name officially on the bracket on Monday night as the NCAA released its selections for the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament.
The Wildcats learned they will be the No. 5 seed and face a familiar foe, getting in the ring for Round 3 against No. 4 Jefferson. The First and Second Rounds of the East Regional Tournament will be played in Manchester, New Hampshire, and hosted by Saint Anselm.
It is the second year in a row and the third trip overall to the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament for the Wildcats. They won the 2012 CACC Tournament Championship and earned the conference's automatic qualification. They traveled to American International College that year and played the College of State Rose, falling 3-0. They earned an at-large bid last year, traveling to Franklin Pierce and falling 2-0.
The game on Friday, November 21, will be the third meeting of the year between the Wildcats and Rams. The two tied, 0-0, in the regular season at Jefferson, and then the Wildcats defeated the Rams, 2-1, in the CACC Tournament Semifinal on Ravenhill Field as well.
Jefferson won the CACC Regular Season title with a 10-0-1 conference record and are currently 15-2-1 overall. Last year, they won two games in the NCAA Tournament before falling to Franklin Pierce in penalty kicks in the Regional Final.
The Wildcats are riding a five-game winning streak into the NCAA Tournament. They are currently 12-2-6 overall.
Friday's match is set for 3:00 p.m. at Grappone Stadium on the campus of Saint Anselm College.
