Women’s Tennis Picks Up Solid Regional Victory, 6-1, at Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team bounced back from back-to-back losses with a good regional victory over Adelphi, 6-1, on Friday afternoon.

Both Adelphi (10-5) and Wilmington (15-4) were named as Teams Under Consideration in the initial NCAA DII East Region Ranking earlier this week.

Friday opened with the Wildcats needing to comeback in the doubles events. Adelphi took the opening match, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles. But Liza Sylka and Siana MacDonald claimed No. 2 doubles, 6-2, to tie the series, before Molly Carlberg and Ming-Fu Chen gave the Wildcats the point with a 6-4 win at No. 1.

Molly Carlberg kept it going into the singles events, winning at No. 2, 6-0 and 6-3, to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. Ming-Fu Chen made it a 3-0 match with a win at No. 4 singles, 6-4 and 6-3, before Adelphi got on the board with a win at No. 1 singles.

Siana MacDonald sealed the match victory with a win at No. 3 singles, winning, 6-1, 4-6, and 6-4. Kushi Khandoji continued the winning for the Wildcats with a 6-3 and 6-3 win at No. 5 singles before Glorida Barcaro closed out the match with a win at No. 6 singles, 6-3 and 6-2.

The Wildcats face another team under consideration for regional play on Saturday, as they travel to New Haven for another key matchup. The first serve is set for 3:00 p.m. in Connecticut.
