Women’s Tennis Closes 2024-25 Regular Season With 7-0 Blanking of UDC

WILMINGTON, Del. - - The 26th-ranked Wilmington University women's tennis team wrapped up its 2024-25 regular season with a 7-0 victory over the District of Columbia on Tuesday afternoon at the Delcastle Tennis Center.

The Wildcats now await the 2025 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Selection Date to see where and who they place next. The Selection Date is set for May 5 on NCAA.com.

The Wildcats closed out the regular season with three consecutive wins, this time blanking their shorthanded opponent, 7-0.

Doubles started with the Wildcats only needing one match to win as the Firebirds defaulted at No. 3. Molly Carlberg and Ming-Fu Chen wasted little time to secure the doubles point, winning at No. 1, 6-1.

A default at No. 6 gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead and then Liza Sylka made it 3-0 with a retirement at No. 1. Sylka was winning, 4-3, at the time of the retirement. Siana MacDonald closed out the team victory for the Wildcats, winning at No. 2, 6-2 and 6-0. Ming-Fu Chen followed closely with a win at No. 4 singles, 6-2 and 6-2, and then Molly Carlberg kept the shutout intact with a 6-1 and 6-3 victory at No. 3. Ines Oliverira completed the shutout at No. 5 singles, winning, 7-5 and 6-0, to close out the match.

The Wildcats earned an automatic bid into the NCAA East Regional Tournament by winning the CACC Tournament Championship for the fourth consecutive year. They will learn where and who they play to open Regional play on May 5.
