Women’s Tennis Opens 2025 Season with 7-0 Shutout of Dominican

WILMINGTON, Del. - - The four-time defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Champion Wilmington University women's tennis team opened its 2025-26 season with a 7-0 sweep of Dominican on Saturday at the Delcastle Tennis Center.

Saturday started with the Wildcats only dropping one game in doubles, as freshman newcomer got Elena Camacho got her feet wet at No. 2 doubles with a 6-0 victory, partnering with sophomore Siana MacDonald. Sophomores Ming-Fu Chen gave the Wildcats the doubles' point with a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles and then Liza Sylka and Gloria Barcaro partnered for a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles to complete the sweep.

Senior Gloria Barcaro then sparked the singles competition with a double bagel at No. 6 singles, 6-0 and 6-0, giving the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Ines Oliveira followed with a blanking of her own at No. 5 singles, winning, 6-0 and 6-0, for the 3-0 lead. Siana MacDonald then clinched the team victory at No. 1 singles, winning 6-0 and 6-1 to make it 4-0.

Ming-Fu Chen continued the sweep at No. 4 singles with a 6-0 and 6-2 win while Elena Camacho picked up her first singles victory of her career at No. 2 singles, 6-1 and 6-2. Liz Sylka completed the sweep with a win at No. 3 singles, 6-3 and 6-1.

The Wildcats are on the road for their next two matches, starting with Chestnut Hill on Thursday afternoon. The first serve is set for 2:00 p.m. in Philadelphia.
