Wildcats Hang On for 4-3 CACC Victory over Chestnut Hill

WILMINGTON, Del. - - Gloria Barcaro battled back from a set down to win at No. 4 singles, clinching a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory, 4-3, over Chestnut Hill at the Delcastle Tennis Center on Thursday.

Due to each team playing with five student-athletes, the match went to a 5v5 format with each match, both doubles and singles, playing for a team point.

The Wildcats got off to a strong start, winning both doubles points to take a 2-0 lead. Siana MacDonald and Ines Oliveira won at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, and then Molly Carlberg and Ming-Fu Chen held off the Griffins, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles to take a 2-0 lead.

The Griffins got on the board with a singles win at No. 2, and then tied the match, 2-2, with a win at No. 5 singles. Molly Carlberg gave the Wildcats a 3-2 lead with a strong victory at No. 1 singles, 6-1 and 6-4. Gloria Barcaro dropped the first set at No. 4 singles, 6-3, but then fought back to take the second set, 6-2, to force a third. The senior then carried the momentum into the final frame, winning, 6-2, to take the match and win it for the Wildcats, 4-2.

The Griffins' Claudia Rasilla did the same thing in her match on court three, dropping the first before inning sets two and three, closing the match with the Wildcats winning, 4-3.

After a busy week on the court, the Wildcats have a few days off before returning to competition. They make the short trip to The Independence School to take on Goldey-Beacom on Monday afternoon. The first serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
