WASHINGTON, D.C. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team won four singles matches on its way to a 6-1 victory against a shorthanded District of Columbia team on Wednesday afternoon.

The Wildcats (13-2) took the doubles points with just one win on Wednesday, as there was no match at No. 3 doubles. Liza Sylka and Gloria Barcaro won at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, to take the point. But Molly Carlberg and Ming-Fu Chen also won their doubles match at No. 1 doubles, needing a set tiebreaker to get the job done. They won the tiebreak, 7-3, to win the match, 7-6.

The default at No. 6 singles gave the Wildcats a quick 2-0 lead, but the Wildcats were up to the task regardless. Liza Sylka won at No. 4 singles, 6-2 and 6-0, while Ines Oliveira won at No. 5 singles, 6-2 and 6-1.

Ming-Fu Chen needed a third set superset to get by her opponent at No. 3 dingles. After dropping the second set to force a super set, Chen went the distance, finishing off Lina Benjelloun, 10-8, to win the superset and the match, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8).

Siana MacDonald needed to make a comeback for the second day in a row, and did just that. After dropping the first set, 2-6, MacDonald fought back by winning the second set, 7-6, and then escaping Celia Bastin in the third set superset, 10-8.

The Wildcats have another tough East Region opponent for their next contest, as they come home to face Queens. The Knights come to town on Monday, March 30, with the first serve set for 2:00 p.m. at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
