WILMINGTON, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team dropped its first match of the spring season, falling 7-0 to No. 26 Queens on Monday afternoon at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
With the loss, the No. 30 Wildcats are now 13-3 overall while the 26th-ranked Queens moves to 11-3 on the season.
The combination of Gloria Barcaro and Liza Sylka kept the Wildcats alive in doubles with a 6-2 win at No. 2, but the Knights finished off the point with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Knights then went on to win all six singles competitions to earn the sweep, 7-0. Elena Camacho won the first set, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. But Queens' Marie Bertran De Balanda batted back with a 7-5 win in the second set and then took the third set superset, 10-3.
The Wildcats take to the road for their next match, as they travel to St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday. The match in Sparkill, New York, is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
