NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Following a 2-0 week inside the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, Wilmington University volleyball junior Alex Siolos and freshman Erin Bistany were recognized by the conference office on Tuesday, each earning a CACC Player of the Week honor.
Siolos and Bistany led the Wildcats to wins over USciences and Felician last week, leading Siolos to be named CACC Player of the Week and Bistany being named CACC Rookie of the Week.
It is the first time since the 2012 season that Siolos has been honored by the CACC in its Weekly Report, earning CACC Rookie of the Week honors on September 11, 2012. It is the first time Bistany has been honored in her career by the CACC.
Siolos started the week by hitting .667 against the Devils, putting down eight kills on 12 swings without committing an error in the straight set victory. She also added seven digs, an ace, and a block assist in the win.
Three days later, the junior compiled her fifth triple-double of the season (sixth of her career) on the road at Felician, picking up 11 kills, 19 assists and 14 digs in the team's 3-1 victory. Siolos also added three more aces and three more block assists on Saturday. She hit .341 in the two matches last week.
Bistany paced the Wildcats with 11.5 points against USciences on Wednesday, scoring seven kills on 11 swings with only two errors while leading the team with two solo and three block assists.
The freshman tallied 11.5 more points on Saturday, denying four attack attempts at the net by herself while also getting a hand on three block assists as well. She collected six kills and hit .214 at Felician.
For the week, Bistany had six solo blocks, six block assists, 13 kills, and hit .320 on 25 attempts.
The Wildcats (6-10, 3-1 CACC) head to Philadelphia for a CACC South Division showdown tonight at 6 p.m. The team also hosts Holy Family and Caldwell this weekend at the WU Athletics Complex.
