For the second week in a row, and the third time this season, Wilmington University volleyball freshman Erin Bistany was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week, this time joined by junior Shelby Henderson who was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Last week, Bistany and Henderson led the Wildcats to a 3-0 week, defeating Philadelphia, USciences, and Post.
Bistany finished second on the team in averaging 2.82 kills per set in 11 games. She hit .438 against Philadelphia with eight kills and only one error before hitting .643 against USciences on Friday. She collected nine kills without an error on 14 swings on Friday night before collecting a career high 14 kills on Saturday against Post.
Defensively, Bistany had a hand on four block assists against USciences and Post, picking up a solo block against Philadelphia and USciences.
Behind Bistany, Henderson was there to pick up any leftover attacks, collecting 72 digs in 11 sets. The libero picked up 28 digs against both Philadelphia and Post while adding 16 digs in a sweep of the Devils.
Henderson is fourth in the CACC in digs per set after averaging 6.54 digs a game last week. It is the second time in her career she has been named a CACC Defensive Player of the Week, also earning the accolade on September 9, 2013.
Men's soccer junior forward Samuel Naiwo was named to the Weekly Honor Roll as well, after leading the Wildcats to a 2-0 week. Naiwo led the team with three goals and three assists, scoring once against Bridgeport and twice more against Nyack. He also added an assist on the game-winner against Bridgeport and tallied two more assists against Nyack.
