NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Racing to another victory has earned Wilmington University's Isaac Ndirangu the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Runner of the Week award while freshman volleyball player Rebecca Rawlinson has been named the CACC Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
It is the second time in as many events that Ndirangu has been named the CACC Runner of the Week, this time having earned medalist honors at the Bruce Kirsh Cup in Hopkinton, N.H. Rawlinson's prowess at the net helped her team to a 2-0 week and her first CACC Rookie of the Week award.
Ndirangu out-paced the field of 127 runners at the East Regional Preview Meet hosted by Franklin Pierce University, crossing the line in 25:49.1. He narrowly beat out an unattached runner by 1.1 second, but the closest collegiate runner was from Saint Rose, coming in 12.5 seconds behind Ndirangu. He was also named the CACC Male Runner of the Week on September 5.
Rawlinson helped the volleyball team to a 2-0 mark last week, first defeating Kutztown, 3-2, before opening the CACC schedule with a 3-1 victory at Felician. The freshman collected 10 kills, seven digs, three aces, three block assists and two block solos at Kutztown before closing the week with three more aces, three solo blocks and two block assists. Rawlinson is sixth in the CACC in averaging 0.95 blocks per set on the season.
