Volleyball Drops CACC South Division Contest With Chestnut Hill

NEWARK, Del. - - After a tight first set, Chestnut Hill overpowered the Wilmington University volleyball team in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division contest on Tuesday night, sweeping the Wildcats, 3-0, inside the WU Athletics Complex.

Set scores for the match were 26-24, 25-14, and 25-10.

Chestnut Hill (9-5, 3-2 CACC) hit .284 for the match while the Wildcats (8-9, 4-2 CACC) hit .081. The Griffins rattled off 18 aces in the match as well.

The Wildcats used a 7-0 run to take a 15-11 lead in the first set and then used a 3-1 spurt to regain a 21-19 advantage. The Griffins took leads of 22-21 and 23-22, but the Wildcats were the first team to earn set point, 24-23. But the Wildcats couldn't close out the Griffins as they scored three straight to steal the opening game, 26-24.

The Griffins raced out a 6-1 lead in the second set, but the Wildcats scratched and clawed to get to with 14-11. But then the Griffins used a 5-1 run to lead, 19-12, and then scored the final five points of the set to win going away, 25-14.

With the third set tied 7-7, the Griffins used a 4-0 spurt on their way to a 14-2 extended run to take a 21-9 lead. Brady Hrivnak put down a kill but then the Griffins scored four straight to close out the set, 25-10, and the match, 3-0.

Eliza Schneider put down eight kills for the Wildcats while Karalyn Osborne added four kills, seven digs, and six assists. Cam Justus dished out eight assists while Gabby Barth led the back row with nine digs.

The Wildcats look to bounce back with their next match on Thursday night, as they host Bloomfield in a CACC cross divisional contest. The first serve against the Bears is set for 7:00 p.m.
