NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The Wilmington University volleyball team continues to produce victories on the hardwood and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference has recognized a pair of Wildcats in this week's Weekly Report.
The Wildcats went 3-0 this week, defeating crosstown rival Goldey-Beacom, 3-2, in a CACC contest and then two matches on Saturday in nonconference action, defeating Southern New Hampshire, 3-0, and Assumption, 3-1. The Wildcats are now 13-8 overall and 7-1 in CACC play, standing atop the CACC South Division. They are 10-1 in their last 11 matches.
Morgan Daniels led the Wildcats' back row last week, being named a CACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week while freshman Gianna King stepped into the lineup last week and was named a CACC Co-Rookie of the Week.
Morgan Daniels (Chillicothe, Ohio) picked up 64 digs in 12 sets last week, going for a 5.33 digs per set average. She collected 22 digs in a 3-2 win against Goldey-Beacom, adding two assists. She then picked up 16 digs in a 3-0 win against Southern New Hampshire, adding a career high seven aces against the Penmen. She finished her week with a new career high 26 digs in a 3-1 win at Assumption, adding two assists as well. She is averaging 2.94 digs per set this season with 238 total digs.
Gianna King (Queenstown, Md.) moved into a middle hitter role after injuries on the team left the position open. She stepped in and contributed immediately, finishing the week with 1.67 kills and 1.42 blocks per set for a total of 2.63 points per set. She had nine kills and hit .381 against Goldey-Beacom, adding seven total blocks (two solo), for 13.5 points. She added three kills without an error against Southern New Hampshire, adding five total blocks (two solo) for 6.5 points. She ended with eight kills and five total blocks (two solo) for 11.5 points in the win at Assumption. She hit .340 for the week with only four errors on 47 attempts last week.
Eliza Schneider (Hartley, Del.) led the attack last week for the Wildcats, landing on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll. She had double digit kills in all three matches, including a week's high 14 against Southern New Hampshire. She finished the week in averaging 3.00 kills and 3.42 points per set.
The Wildcats return home for two midweek games before hitting the road this weekend for two more nonconference contests. They are home on Tuesday against Georgian Court and on Thursday against West Chester. The match against Georgian Court on Tuesday is set for 7:00 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex.
