NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference announced its All-Conference Volleyball Teams and Major Award winners on Wednesday afternoon and the Wilmington University volleyball team had two student-athletes on the report.
Outside hitters Karla Nunez-Rivera (Charlotte, N.C.) and Eliza Schneider (Hartly, Del.) were voted All-CACC by the leagues 11 head coaches with Nunez-Rivera earning Second Team All-CACC and Schneider being named Third Team All-CACC.
Karla Nunez-Rivera was voted Second Team All-CACC for the first time in her career and currently leads the Wildcats with 3.15 kills per set and 3.62 points per set as a sophomore. She ranks tied for sixth in the CACC in kills per set and is also seventh in the league in averaging 3.62 points per set. She's had a season high 19 kills twice, first in a five-set victory against Holy Family where she hit .400 for the match and again at Goldey-Beacom to secure the South Division title. She has seven double-doubles on the year with a season high 14 digs at Assumption.
It is the second time Eliza Schneider has earned All-CACC honors in her two-year career so far, as she was the CACC Rookie of the Year and a Second Team honoree last year. Schneider is second on the team in averaging 2.77 kills per set, putting down 346 total on the year so far. She is also second on the team in averaging 2.99 points per set. She's had a season high 19 kills twice this year, first at Dominican in a five-set victory while hitting .356 and again at Bloomsburg in a four-set victory while hitting .349. She put down 15 kills with only one error on 27 attempts to hit .519 in the CACC Tournament First Round victory on Tuesday night. She is 10th in the CACC with 2.77 kills per set and 10th overall in hitting .240 on the year as an outside hitter.
Post's Kristina Peric was voted the CACC Player of the Year while her teammate Alyssa Groves repeats as CACC Defensive Player of the Year. Holy Family's Mia Wise was picked as the CACC Setter of the Year with her coach, Colin Sibilia, earning the CACC Coach of the Year award. Goldey-Beacom's freshman middle hitter Gabi Fullwood was voted the CACC Rookie of the Year by the head coaches.
The Wildcats earned a spot in the CACC Tournament Semifinals with a 3-1 win over Dominican on Tuesday night. They now face Bridgeport in the Semifinals hosted by Goldey-Beacom on Saturday afternoon. The match is set for a 2:30 p.m. first serve inside the Joseph West Jones Center in Wilmington, Delaware.
