NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Sophomore Jesus Amezquita and freshman Ken Fontal swept the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Cross Country weekly report on Monday, taking home the Male Runner and Make Rookie of the Week, respectively, after their performance at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday.
It is the second time this season that Amezquita (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) was named the CACC Male Runner of the Week, while Fontal (Newark, Del./Newark) picks up his first weekly award of his collegiate career.
Amezquita paced the Wildcats at the Princeton Invitational, leading the team to a 21st place finish among 30 teams, mostly NCAA Division I programs. The sophomore placed 65th overall with a time of 25:07 in the 8K event.
Fontal was the fourth Wildcat to cross the line on Saturday, finishing 147th overall with a time of 25:57 at West Windsor Field on the campus of the Tigers.
Bloomfield's Farheen Abbasi was named the CACC Female Runner of the Week after finishing second at the Albright Homecoming Meet, running the 5K in a time of 22:12.7. Philadelphia's Kaitlyn Beckham was named the Female Rookie of the Week after finishing 18th overall at the Collegiate Track Conference Championship with a season-best 6K time of 24:10.2.
Amezquita and Fontal have a week to prepare for the CACC Championships on Sunday, as they look to lead the Wildcats to defend the Men's Championship on Belmont Plateau in Fairmont Park in Philadelphia.
