2018: CACC Rookie of the Year - All-CACC (7th) - CACC Rookie of the Week (10/15) – ran in eight meets his freshman year – fastest 8K of the season was 26:54.7, where he placed 10th out of 204 runners at the Inter-Regional Border Battle on October 13 – came in seventh in his first collegiate race at the WUXC Invite with a time of 30:24.6 – placed 45th in the 10K at the NCAA Division II East Regional Championships with a time of 34:39.60 – finished 4th out of 69 runners at the UD Blue and Gold Invite with a time of 27:43.2 on October 6 – ran a 28:07.9 at the CACC Championships, finishing 7th overall to help the men clinch first place.
High School: Ran cross country and track all four years at Concord High School in Wilmington, Del., for coaches Pinchin and Thomas – fastest 5K was ran at a time of 16:18 – 2nd Team All-State – Blue Hen Conference Champion – All-County in New Castle, Delaware – two-time All-Conference.
Personal: Garrett Anthony Checchi – son of Frank and Sharon Checchi – has a twin named Alex and an older sister Jane – majoring in criminal justice at Wilmington University with aspirations of becoming a police officer – from Wilmington, Del. – favorite pro sports athlete is Steve Prefontaine – biggest pet peeve is backseat drivers – the thing he misses most about being a kid is being irresponsible and care free – favorite pro sports team is the Philadelphia Flyers – the final song he listens to before he runs is Ransom by Lil Tecca – the perfect meal prepared for him would be steak, corn bread and French fries.
