NEWARK, Del. - - Following its season debut at the Philly Metro last week, the Wilmington University men's cross country team has entered the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Poll, being named No. 8 in Week 1.
The Wildcats are coming off a second place finish at the Philly Metro, but was the top Division II program on Saturday. They earned a score of 63 points, only behind Division II power Rowan who scored 49 points on Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park on Saturday. They were the top Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference team among eight conference programs at the Philly Metro.
The Wildcats were not in the preseason Regional Poll, but enter in at No. 8 after the opening week. The Top 3 remain the same from the preseason poll, as Southern Connecticut, Roberts Wesleyan, and Franklin Pierce sit atop the poll.
Saint Michael's moves up four spots to No. 4 this week followed by Southern Hampshire, New Haven, and Bentley. After Wilmington in eighth is Assumption and CACC foe Georgian Court rounds out the Week 1 Poll at No. 10.
The Wildcats are back in action with a Friday matinee meet this weekend, as they head to Kutztown to compete in the DII/DIII Challenge. The men start things off at 5:00 p.m. followed by the women at 5:45 p.m.
