Kaleb Hedgepeth and Caleb Matthews Named to 2023-24 CSC Academic All-District Team

NEWARK, Del. - - A pair of Wilmington University men's basketball student-athletes were recognized for their efforts on the court and in the classroom this season, as Kaleb Hedgepeth and Caleb Matthews were named to the 2023-24 Academic All-District Team, as selected by the College Sports Communicators.

To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District nomination, the student-athlete must excel in both the field of play and the classroom. Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, AND compete in 90 percent of the institution's games or start in at least 66 percent of the games, along with several other criteria.

Kaleb Hedgepeth (Wake Forrest, N.C.) appeared in 28 games for the Wildcats this season, making three starts. He averaged 4.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 0.6 blocks per game. He had a season high 12 points at Jefferson on December 30, adding five rebounds, two assists, and two blocked shots. He also had an 11-point game against Molloy, adding four rebounds, two assists, and two blocked shots. He had a season's best three blocked shots against Holy Family on February 20. In the classroom, Hedgepeth is carrying a 3.89 cumulative grade point average while studying for his business management degree.

Caleb Matthews (Smyrna, Del.) started all 29 games in his final season for the Wildcats and was one of three Wildcats to average double digits in scoring. He scored 331 points this season, averaging 10.7 points per game while also grabbing 3.2 rebounds and dishing out 3.1 assists per game. Matthews finished tied for fifth in the CACC with a 2.0 assist to turnover ratio and 12th overall with 89 assists. He had 18 games in double digits, including a pair of 20-point games, the second coming in the CACC Tournament Quarterfinal with a season high 23 points at Post. Matthews also carries a 3.85 cumulative grade point average in his senior year and is looking to graduate with his business management degree.

Hedgepeth and Matthews led the Wildcats to a 16-13 overall record and a third-place finish in the CACC South Division. The Wildcats made a return trip to the CACC Tournament Quarterfinal round.
