NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - For the third time this season, Wilmington University men's basketball freshman Jaylin Horsey has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week after helping the Wildcats to a comeback victory on Saturday.
The Wildcats found themselves down by 17 points early in the second half and as many as 10 points behind with 9:12 left in regulation before mounting a major comeback and defeating Bridgeport, 77-75, to turn their CACC record into a 2-1 count.
Jaylin Horsey (Wilmington, Del./William Penn) helped the Wildcats in the comeback with 17 points off the bench. He shot 6-of-14 from the floor for the game, including 4-for-12 from deep and 3-for-4 from the foul line.
On the season, Horsey is averaging 12.4 points per game but jumps up to 21.0 per game in the three CACC contests. He is second in the CACC in shooting 45.1 percent from beyond the three-point arc this year.
Justin Perez was named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll after leading the Wildcats with 18 points, scoring 15 in the second half to lead the comeback.
The Wildcats are back in action on Tuesday night, hosting Jefferson in a key CACC South Division battle at the WU Athletics Complex. The men tip off at 8:00 p.m.
