Tre Hawkins Named CACC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Helping the team to a 2-0 record last week, Wilmington University men's basketball sophomore forward Tre Hawkins was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week on Monday, as announced by the conference office.

Tre Hawkins (Waldorf, Md.) averaged 18.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last week, leading the team to victories over Goldey-Beacom and Pace. The Wildcats are now 5-5 overall and 1-3 in CACC play.

On Tuesday night, Hawkins scored 23 points on 11-of-15 shooting against Goldey-Beacom, grabbing 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the year. He also dished out four assists against the Lightning, adding a steal in the 22-point victory. Hawkins then scored 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting at Pace, grabbing six rebounds while adding two assists and two blocked shots. For the week, he shot 17-of-24 for the week, good enough for a 70.8 percent from the floor.

For the season, Tre Hawkins leads the Wildcats and is third in the CACC in scoring ,18.1 points per game. He is also second in the CACC in grabbing 10.1 rebounds a contest, the only student-athlete in the CACC averaging a double-double so far this season.

On the women's side, Emma Brown (Wilmington, Del.) earned a spot on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll after averaging 14 points, 16 rebounds, four steals, 3.5 blocks, and two assists in two games last week. She grabbed 22 rebounds against Goldey-Beacom, the second most in a game in the Wildcats' NCAA era.

Hawkins and the Wildcats are in action twice this week before reaching the mandatory NCAA Division II Holiday Break. They play at the College of Staten Island on Wednesday night and travel to Caldwell on Friday night.
