NEWARK, Del. - - Nine goals in the second quarter boosted the Wilmington University men's lacrosse team to an 18-4 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Georgian Court on Wednesday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

In a rematch of last year's CACC Tournament Championship game, Georgian Court (0-5, 0-2 CACC) came out and scored the first two goals of Wednesday's game, but then it was all Wilmington (4-3, 2-0 CACC) for the rest of the contest.

The Wildcats scored the final three goals of the first quarter to lead, 4-3, getting goals from Max Runcer, Andrew Dzubak, and Tyler Quinn. But then Dzubak scored 23 seconds into the second quarter and 11 seconds after that, quickly giving the Wildcats a 5-2 lead. Carter Barrie and Kyle Parker scored to make it a 7-0 run and a 7-2 lead before Georgian Court ended the drought with a goal with 8:07 to play. But Ian Bets started another run for the Wildcats, closing the second quarter on a 5-0 run, taking a 12-3 lead into the halftime break.

The second quarter produced 10 total goals, but the game slowed down out of the break. Andrew Dzubak scored his fifth of the game with 13:27 to play in the third to make it 13-3, and that would be the only goal of the quarter.

The run continued into the fourth quarter though, as the Wildcats received goals from Josh Weston, Carer Barrie, and Weston again to make it nine consecutive goals and a 16-3 lead. Georgian Court finally ended the run with a goal with 8:42 to play, but the Wildcats answered right back with the final two goals of the game, settling the score at 18-4.

Andrew Dzubak scored five goals and added an assist for six points while Kyle Parker finished with three goals and two assists for five points. Josh Weston also had a hat trick with three goals.

The Wildcats defense caused 15 turnovers in the game, led by Quinn Tracy and Julian Businsky with three each. Businsky led everyone with six ground balls as a defenseman. The Wildcats won 18-of-24 faceoffs, with Brian McGarvey going 6-for-7, Aidan Vicidomini going 4-for-5, and Connor Widmer going 8-for-12.

The Wildcats travel to Post on Saturday afternoon, facing the Eagles in Waterbury, Connecticut. The opening face-off is set for 12:00 p.m. on LaMoy Field.
