Rich Groff transitioned to the Athletics Operations Manager prior to the 2024-25 academic school year. Groff has been a mainstay within Wilmington University since being an NAIA All-American during his playing days on the baseball diamond in the late 1990's. He has since been on the bench with the baseball, softball, and women's basketball programs as an assistant coach while also maintaining the athletics facilities.
Groff joined the Wilmington University women's basketball coaching staff on December 4, 2023 with interim head coach Brian August. Rich Groff has been with Wilmington University since being a student-athlete starting in 1999. He has then been an assistant coach with the baseball and softball programs, and is now believed to be the only person in Wilmington history to be a coach of a third program.
After 15 seasons as a part of the Wilmington University baseball team, Rich Groff enters his fifth season as an assistant coach for the Wildcats softball team in 2021. Groff works with the infielders and is the team's third base coach.
Coach Groff was a member of the 2000 Region X Championship baseball team at Wilmington University during his senior season. Following that season he was named as an Honorable Mention All-American and led the team in innings pitched and was second in wins.
Groff played his first two seasons at Cecil Community College and came to Wilmington for the 1999 season. During his career he compiled a 26-13 record.
He currently works in the University's athletics department as an athletics grounds assistant.
Coach Groff resides in Bear with his wife Kelly and son Owen.
