Six Women’s Soccer Standouts Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

NEWARK, Del. - - The College Sports Communicators announced its 2025 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team and six Wilmington University student-athletes were recognized as some of the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Representing the Wilmington University women's soccer team on the CSC Academic All-District Team were graduate student Claudia Gillum, redshirt junior Maria Leguizamon, and juniors Sierra Bartley, Sophia Filipowski, Mary Kahraman, and Cayley Winters. The six Wildcats represent the most among Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference programs and are among 60 total CACC student-athletes.

To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District nomination, the student-athlete must excel in both the field of play and the classroom. Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, AND compete in 90 percent of the institution's games or start in at least 66 percent of the games, along with several other criteria. A maximum of six nominations is awarded in the sport of women's soccer.

Claudia Gillum (Charleston, S.C.) appeared in all 21 games in the midfield in her lone season with the Wildcats after transferring in this fall. She made 12 starts as well, scoring two goals while adding an assist for five points. She scored in games against Lincoln (Pa.) and Georgian Court while assisting in the CACC Tournament victory over Georgian Court as well. She is studying for her master's in digital communications, carrying a 3.97 grade point average.

Maria Leguizamon (Bogota, Colombia) is one of four Wildcats that started all 21 games this season, anchoring the defense as a center back. The defense only allowed 20 goals in 21 games this year and Leguizamon helped offensively, scoring three times as well. She had a game-winner against Bentley and scored at Dominican and cemented the CACC Tournament Championship with a goal against Caldwell in the title game. She is carrying a 3.69 grade point average while studying for her marketing degree.

Sierra Bartley (Mississauga, Ontario) enjoyed a successful first season with the Wildcats playing in 19 games while starting in 18 of them atop the formation. She was second on the team and seventh in the CACC with 19 points, scoring seven goals and adding five assists. She scored a season's best two goals in a 2-0 win at Felician. She is carrying a 3.63 grade point average while studying for her communications degree.

Sophia Filipowski (Hockessin, Del.) was another defender that started all 21 games for the Wildcats this season. She helped anchor the defense that only allowed 20 goals in 21 games this year as an outside back. She also scored two goals and added an assist on the year for five points. She scored goals against Lincoln (Pa.) and in the CACC Tournament Semifinal game at Jefferson, adding an assist in the CACC Tournament First Round game against Georgian Court. She is carrying a 3.89 grade point average while studying for her health sciences degree.

Mary Kahraman (Melbourne, Australia) was another defender that started all 21 games for the Wildcats in her first season with the program, moving from center midfield to center back when the need for it arose. She helped lead the defense that only allowed 20 goals in 21 games this year, securing eight shutouts. She also had two assists this year, first against Lincoln (Pa.) and against Georgian Court. She is carrying a perfect 4.00 grade point average while studying for her health sciences degree.

Cayley Winters (Chelmsford, England) anchored the midfield for the Wildcats in her first season, starting in all 20 games she played in. She also tallied eight points this year, scoring two goals while adding four assists, bring the starter on most set pieces and corners. She had a season's best three points at Dominican with a goal and an assist and also assisted on a goal in the CACC Tournament Championship against Caldwell. She is studying for her graphic design degree with a grade point average of 3.58.

The 2025 CSC Academic All-American Teams will be released on Wednesday, December 17.
