Georgian Court Sweeps CACC Series From Volleyball with 3-0 Victory

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - - Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division Leading Georgian Court swept the regular season series from the Wilmington University volleyball team with a 3-0 win on Tuesday night inside the Wellness Center.

Set scores for the match were 26-24, 25-15, and 25-8.

It was tough for the Wildcats (11-12, 6-4 CACC) to find the floor on Tuesday night, as Georgian Court (11-7, 8-1 CACC) collected 43 digs and had seven total blocks in the three set match. The Wildcats put down 24 kills on 93 attempts, hitting .032 for the match.

The Wildcats fought back trailing 23-18 in the first set, going on a 4-0 run to get within 23-22, capped by an Eliza Schneider ace. The Lions scored to reach set point, but a kill from Alex Serna and a Lion error tied the game, 24-24. But the Wildcats couldn't gain set point on their side, as the Lions scored back-to-back points to take the set, 26-24.

The Lions then started the second set on a 7-1 run and then used another 5-0 run to take a 20-10 advantage. The Lions closed the second set by scoring three of the final four points to win, 25-15.

The Lions again started hot in the third set, opening a 9-1 lead. A 5-0 spurt gave the Lions a 16-3 lead and then another 5-0 run saw the Lions take a 22-5 advantage. A final kill ended the match, 25-8.

Eliza Schneider led the Wildcats with 10 kills while adding two digs and an ace. Karla Nunez-Rivera had six kills to go with two blocks while Alex Serna added five kills. Claudia Melendez led the team with 11 assists while Gabby Barth led the back row with nine digs.

The Wildcats' seven-game road trip ends this weekend, as they are set for a Saturday tri-match on the campus of Bentley University. They will play the host Falcons at 11:00 a.m. ant then face Southern New Hampshire at 1:00 p.m.
